So, a post titled weirdly and written by ‘zeust’? Okay, it’s fun time.
Unfortunately, it’s not really a fun time and if you ask me honestly, days of darkness have arrived. Anyhow, let’s not delve into more attractive way of saying it and be frank: Server is left with ~10 GB and we are at a point where we can’t really upload any non-ongoing thing. Even with ongoing stuff, 10 GB will be consumed in a week or two. So, what I am trying to say is:
After much discussion we have decided to start deleting stuff.
And following things will be our target for deletion: 1- Duplicate encodes. (Like BDs version from different encoders.)
2- HDTV 720p releases of the anime that already have a BD 720p release on Hi10.
3- BD 720p releases of the anime that already have a BD 1080p release.
Let me be clear about the 3rd point. We have already deleted many duplicate things and even HDTV releases, but we believe we still have many completely unnecessary releases that we can delete to make some space; however, that will be, let’s be optimistic and say, ~25 GB. It’s next to nothing as it will be covered in few weeks as well. So what then? Well, that’s where the 3rd step will kick in.
What the hell, isn’t it a bit harsh? Yes, it is. But we can’t help it anymore. Normally in cases like such, we request our fan to donate (which in a way I’m telling you indirectly even now XD) but unfortunately reality is pretty harsh. People donate for one time and get over it even though I deeply emphasized in my previous post (when server space was almost NULL) that every one should keep donating even little. Anyway, as things stand now WE CAN’T AFFORD TO UPGRADE OUR SERVER BECAUSE WE DON’T GET MUCH DONATION. If we upgrade next month hoping that you will donate after reading this post and the month after that we get no donation we WILL LOSE THE SERVER AS WELL AS ALL THE DATA (ALL ANIME WE HAVE ATM). Considering much regarding this, we decided not to take such a huge risk, but start deleting stuff to create some space. On a side note, upgrading (2TB extra space) will make our donation target to be €120 monthly.
So, how is it going to affect Hi10 in future? Simply said, since we will have to delete BD 720ps eventually, we won’t be able to encode BD 720ps in future. Only BD 1080ps will get the chance to be a part of Hi10.
Now, time for some frankly talk:
First thing I want to mention is that if you are thinking that maybe BD 720ps shouldn’t be deleted because you can’t play 1080ps, then, unfortunately, you’ll have to cope with it somehow. I once used to have core duo 2 and I could watch 1080p videos flawlessly. I highly doubt anyone having a system below that in this age, but if you happen to have such a system, get a ‘real system’ seriously. Moreover, look at the era we are entering; 4K is getting popular and soon 1080p will become standard. Considering the trend and the future, keeping 720ps while deleting 1080ps is seriously counter-productive measure and that’s the main reason we won’t do it.
Second thing I want to discuss is ‘the donations’. All I can do is to say: Donate. Last time I carefully spoon-fed people that how even 1$ from 5% of our visitors can save Hi10 easily, but after a few months we are at the same point. Even now if you are getting passionate, don’t be… What we really want is little but steady donation, not a one time donation. Instead of exhausting your pocket in one go, it’s better to give little by little (if you can afford obviously); psychologically speaking it’s like this: Jogging for 3 hours in one day will weaver your resolve next day because well… jogging for 3 hours is horrendously tiring, thus the next day when you think of ‘jogging’ you will automatically get the idea of ‘the trauma you had for that 3 hours’. But if you jog for 20 mins, the next day you will be able to do it again because well… it’s just 20 mins, c’mon. So you might end up jogging for 20 mins for the entire year and that’s just way more better than a one time 3-hour jogging. It’s not really relevant to donation, you might think, but our mind does somethings unconsciously without even getting your permission, ironically. So, it’s better to follow the advice of your well-wisher, I mean ME. XD
The situation of donations in a nutshell:

‘What should we do?’
‘Ah, zeust, please spank people.’

It might be funny, but it is somewhat similar to this, if not all. What I mean to say is: This isn’t the first time we are making such a post. Maybe we aren’t destined to donation XD What I actually mean to say is: YOU ARE NOT DONATING. Actually you have no right to donate to us, but ironically we are ALL dependent on you. (Yes, you… Yes yes, you… not you, the one with some money, I mean XD) We are devoting a noticeable portion of our life to Hi10 (for free), so maybe you should be a bit considerate too? (I don’t believe, I’m TRAINING you how to donate.)
Btw, the title ‘donation that Hi10 gets’ is a rip-off from anime title ‘Basketball that Kuroko Plays’ XD
Third, the purpose of this post might appear a bit confusing. It’s more of a premonition, you could say, but we decided to share it because we care about you. (Why else are we doing all the hard work on encoding and all?) We have been discussing this for many days and before we take any drastic measure, it’s more humane to aware our fans that even though we are awesome, there comes a time when awesome things have to sacrifice a portion of their awesomeness. (In this case: Hi10 deleting its releases to save space).
Fourth, it’d be a waste of time to suggest us to host files on file-hosting servers (MEGA etc). We work in this field. We know the upsides and downsides of such services. But if you think that there’s some creative way that can really be awesome, I don’t mind your sharing it.
Lastly, all those who ARE donating or those who ONCE donated, we are really grateful for your attention. This post is not meant as ‘Well, you donated but it didn’t help.’ We are seriously in favor of all the fans who love us, watch me troll, follow us and donated to Hi10. The fact that I’m bluntly saying that ‘it’s NOT like who donated previously didn’t help much’ means that we certainly are thankful of you by being transparent. (Or maybe I’m playing a reverse psychology on you and just know how to make you happy?? XD) Well, if I’m being that truthful, then accept this truth as well: THANKS FOR DONATING TO US, I/WE REALLY LOVE YOUR LOVE FOR US. XD

10- Maybe you have realized it’s getting out of control???
So as I said, it’s a masterpiece of its own kind.

Don’t forget to keep an optimistic mind about all this situation and keep helping us whenever possible. If you can donate, that’s the best we can get. Otherwise, we’ll have to take drastic measures to save Hi10 but be with us (if you want to, of course.)
